Mission
The Mission of the Communication Program at the University of Mary is to prepare students to become courageous communicators who are dedicated to seeking and presenting the truth about humanity. Through a balanced approach to theoretical studies and practical application, students will be able to use and adapt multiple communication channels (voice, broadcast, advertising, etc) to serve the artistic, cultural, informational, commercial and advocacy needs of communities. A particular emphasis is placed on the Benedictine values of hospitality, community, service, respect for persons, moderation, and prayer. Graduates will be well prepared for careers or further academic studies in a variety of communication fields.
Outcomes
Graduates of this Program are able to:
- To seek out information, evaluate it, organise and present it to an audience.
- Create messages by using and adapting multiple communication channels.
- Critically analyse messages.
- Identify cultural or contextual effects of messages.
- Identify and Respond to artistic, cultural, informational, commercial and advocacy needs of communities.
- Apply ethical principles and practices in the light of Catholic Social Teaching and the Benedictine Values.
Major in Communication
The Communication Major contains a core of required Communication courses and a series of electives, or select a specific concentration area.
