Computer Engineering Major

Prepare for a career in software development and computer/microcontroller design in a wide range of fields, including software development, engineering design and analysis, and creative problem solving through hands-on experimental learning. Become a better computer engineer by understanding what it takes to program your designs.

Computer Engineering Program Educational Objectives

​​Having been formed through Christian, Catholic and Benedictine values as whole persons for the whole of life, within a few of years graduation, our computer engineering graduates will:

  • Have increased responsibility in their professional roles as a result of their ethical integrity,
  • Be innovators of latest technologies and methodologies that enhance their fields,
  • Be life-long learners who seek advanced degrees and/or higher accomplishments in the field, and
  • In the Spirit of Service, and through leadership roles, collaborate with colleagues from multiple disciplines.
  • Explore ways to design and build technology through hands-on experiences
    • Software Engineering (coding, testing, as well as program design)
    • Knowledge of designing, coding, and testing software and computer systems
    • Adapt to working with a wide range of software, depending on the hardware architecture
    • Ability to select the best hardware components for desired software environment
    • Ensuring hardware and software work together
    • Strong mathematical background in calculus and physics
    • Deep understanding of circuit design and digital systems

Major Requirements


Required Courses:


Need a grade of “C-” or better for all courses required of the major, as well as any pre-requisite courses for the major requirements.

Students must also achieve a GPA of 2.5 or higher for all courses required of the major.

Ethics: Choose One


Additional Science Elective:


Students must achieve a minimum of 6 credits in the Natural Sciences (BIO, BCH, CHE, GLG, PHY, SCI). The Computer Engineering program has 5 credits required by default. Students will need to take 1 or more additional credits in BIO, BCH, CHE, GLG, PHY, SCI to achieve the needed minmum of 6 total credits.

Total: 132-134 Semester Credits
