CTH 534 - History of Western Education Provides an overview of the western educational tradition beginning with the ancient Greeks up to the present. Examines the Greek philosophical tradition, Jewish revelatory tradition, and the Christian synthesis of both, especially concerning those traditions’ reflection on the nature of the human person and excellence or virtue, which is the basis of the Western tradition. Investigates the nature and purposes of Western education, tracing its unfolding over time, including challenges by modernism and its contemporary iterations.
