Degree: Master of Social Work

The University of Mary is preparing to offer the new Master of Social Work (M.S.W.) degree program beginning Fall 2024.

The University of Mary Social Work Program offers a Master of Social Work degree with two specialty track options: Clinical Social Work or Macro Practice and Leadership. This program has two entry points.

  1. Traditional: students without a bachelor’s degree in social work from a CSWE-accredited program will enter the Traditional program, which provides a generalist curriculum (30 credits) prior to embarking on the specialist track (30 credits), totalling 60 credits for the full degree.
  2. Advanced Standing: students entering with a bachelor’s degree in social work from a CSWE accredited program will instead enter as Advanced Standing. These students do not need to complete the generalist courses, and instead immediately begin their specialty track.

All students will select one of the two specialty tracks: Clinical Social Work or Macro Practice and Leadership,

Upon graduation, students will have the knowledge, values, and skills for professional social work practice in a range of settings. See full details on program admission requirements on the Behavioral Sciences: Graduate Programs  page.

Accreditation

University of Mary’s MSW program is currently seeking pre-candidacy status for accreditation by the Council on Social Work Education’s Board of Accreditation and expects to then seek candidacy status. Students who enter programs in Pre-Candidacy that then attain Candidacy in the academic year in which they begin their program of study will be retroactively recognized as having graduated from a CSWE-accredited program once the program attains initial accreditation. This program has been approved for launch by the University of Mary and by the Higher Learning Commission.
