Degree Types: Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science
Students pursuing the Exceptional Learner degree are interested in working with individuals with exceptionalities outside of the teaching role. This degree is ideal for students interested in professions within the human service field as well as those pursuing related post-graduate degrees that require an undergraduate degree.
Program Outcomes:
University of Mary students who complete the major Exceptional Learners will be prepared to meet the needs of individuals with exceptionalities by:
- Being knowledgeable in characteristics of disabilities, best practices, human development, federal and state special education law, general school curriculum, behavior support, and assessment.
- Having the skills to work collaboratively and effectively with families and schools.
- Demonstrating personal, professional skills and attitudes that prepare them for a variety of roles supporting people with disabilities in schools, human service agencies, adult education, community-home support, and administration.
