HCB 565 - Bioethics Across the Lifespan


This course provides an overview of bioethical issues pertaining to the beginning and end of life. Topics may include, but are not limited to: abortion, assisted reproduction, management of life-threatening pregnancies, advanced directives, refusing medical treatment, criteria for determining death, medically assisted suicide and euthanasia. Students will apply a teleological ethics of virtue, as is found in the natural law, and which provides the philosophical foundations for The Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services. Students will also engage alternative approaches to these questions.
