MAT 201 - Elementary Math for Teachers The mathematics of “number” needed for K-8 teaching. All topics, from place value and arithmetic to prealgebra and the real number system, integrate building a teacher’s understanding with how young children learn and apply mathematics. Problem solving and writing mathematically sound word problems are also discussed. This course focuses on the rigorous mathematical foundation of elementary level mathematics, while later EDU courses focus on methods for teaching elementary math.
