CSD 520 - Speech Sound Disorders This course provides master’s level students in speech-language pathology knowledge of advanced management of speech sound disorders (SSD) in children. Students will examine aspects of normal articulation, models of speech sound acquisition, and classification of speech sound disorders. Through exercises and case-based examples, students will investigate the assessment of speech sound disorders and evidence-based treatment approaches for both motor-based and linguistically-based speech sound disorders. Additional topics of study include childhood apraxia of speech (CAS), speech production associated with cleft palate, language and dialectal variations, accent modification, and the relationship between speech sound disorders and phonological awareness.
