EDU 413 - Home-Community Collaboration


This course examines strategies for building collaborative relationships between students and their families, school-related services, and communities to meet the educational needs of learners in a variety of settings, to include homes, schools and community settings. Students will explore family systems including theories related to family structure and function; family dynamics including perspectives of diversity and cultural variances; family relationships and the dynamics of family life; adaptations in family structure and times of transition; adult-child interactions and family roles; as well as exploration of current family systems research and theory. Course opportunities include exploration of advocacy, conflict resolution, difficult conversations, diverse populations, and current research and theory as well as knowledge of professionalism, planning meetings, supervisory skills, and family engagement.
