NUR 352 - Health Promotion for the Older Adult


This course will address the theoretical and evidence based care of common geriatric health problems with a focus on co-morbidities. Emphasis will be placed on the pathophysiologic cause of disease and the role of nutrition and pharmacology in health promotion and disease management. Various assessment tools and strategies for delivering evidence based care are examined and will provide the basis for nursing care designed to enhance quality of life for the older adult in both health and disease states. Ethical and Legal considerations, Quality and /Safety Education for Nurses (QSEN) principles and national patient safety indicators will provide direction to promote, restore, and maintain the health of the older adult patient. The student will perform a complete assessment on an older adult with co-morbidities and develop interventions to promote successful aging and quality of life.
