ADC 318 - Pharmacology of Addiction This course will provide an overview of the study of drugs, motivations for drug use, social implications, and factors affecting how drugs interact with the human body. It will describe the basic principles and terminology of pharmacology, psychology and physiology of drug use. An introduction and information on the classes of drugs will be discussed. The categories of drugs will include: alcohol, benzodiazepines, sedative-hypnotics, opiates, marijuana, stimulants, caffeine, cocaine, amphetamines, hallucinogens, inhalants, tobacco, and over-the-counter medications. In addition, psychotherapeutic drugs and mental illness will be reviewed along with addictive behaviors, including gambling addiction. Contagious diseases including AIDS/HIV are presented.
