Child Development Studies Major

Degree Types: Bachelor of Science (default) or Bachelor of Arts (alternative)

Child Development Studies provides a degree path for students interested in a variety of personal and professional options with the focus of impacting the lives of young children. The degree is organized around a core set of early childhood and development courses, and then allows a student to work closely with advisors to create an interdisciplinary course of study suitable for their personal and professional goals. Opportunities include but are not limited to: childcare program owner/operator/director/provider, community and human services coordination, youth coordinator, parenting and family life education, parish servant leadership, non-profit work, and undergraduate degrees for occupational therapy, ministry, child life specialist, etc. 

Major Requirements


Build your program by choosing an additional major or minors:


Examples include, but are not limited to:

  • Pursue Catholic Studies Major  
  • Work with parish youth: choose a minor or courses toward degree
  • Home schooling: choose a minor or choose additional education courses
  • Child Care program or Pre-K (outside of a public-school district) director/owner/operator/teacher: Business Administration Minor  or choose additional Early Childhood courses
  • Pre-Occupational Therapy: complete pre-reqs for Occupational Therapy, O.T.D.  

Note: Students pairing liberal arts options may want to consider the BA degree.
