Engineering Student Outcomes

1. an ability to identify, formulate, and solve complex engineering problems by applying principles of engineering, science, and mathematics
2. an ability to apply engineering design to produce solutions that meet specified needs with consideration of public health, safety, and welfare, as well as global, cultural, social, environmental, and economic factors
3.  an ability to communicate effectively with a range of audiences
4. an ability to recognize ethical and professional responsibilities in engineering situations and make informed judgments, which must consider the impact of engineering solutions in global, economic, environmental, and societal contexts
5. an ability to function effectively on a team whose members together provide leadership, create a collaborative and inclusive environment, establish goals, plan tasks, and meet objectives
6. an ability to develop and conduct appropriate experimentation, analyze and interpret data, and use engineering judgment to draw conclusions

Mechanical Engineering Program Educational Objectives

Informed by the Catholic, Christian, and Benedictine identity of the University of Mary, graduates of the Mechanical Engineering program will be educated as whole persons. They will bring to their profession:

• Integrity, forthrightness, and clear values emphasizing community, service, and respect for persons
• A sound working knowledge of engineering fundamentals and technology and an ability to apply it to real-world problems
• Innovativeness, adaptability, and continuous engagement in life-long learning
• Professional habits including time-management, planning, teamwork, and communication
• A proclivity to identify and solve problems relevant to their role and expertise; being mindful of their community and ethical obligations

Plans for the Future

The University of Mary is constructing a new Engineering building, including classrooms, laboratories and offices, which will be completed by Fall 2020. Additionally, ABET accreditation will be sought for the Bachelor’s Degree program in Mechanical Engineering during the 2020-2021 cycle. Mechanical Engineering degrees awarded before accreditation will be retroactively accredited.
