POL 317 - Political Philosophy I The first of two courses designed to give an overview of the history of political theory. Topics may include the Greek and Roman understandings of justice and the best regime; the impact of the rise of the Church on political philosophy; and the revival of classical political thought in the early Renaissance. Such figures as Plato, Aristotle, St. Augustine, St. Thomas Aquinas, and Machiavelli may be included.
