LIB 310 - The Scientific Mind Our minds are created to correspond with all of reality. We have a deep thirst to understand the world around us. When the mind reaches out to understand, reality comes to live in the mind and soul. That thirst for understanding has given rise, among other things, to the development of mathematics and the natural sciences. Mathematics discovers all of the potentialities of the physical world. Science leads the mind to enter into the inner reality of things, whether rocks or flowers or animals or human beings. It can go yet further and open up a deeper thirst for the divine. A mind that travels this road of discovery begins to encounter the magnificent capacity of humans to understand existence in all of its particulars. This is the scientific mind.
