Lab Science Course Placement

The University of Mary is committed to ensuring its students develop the necessary basic scientific skills to prepare them not only for advanced university courses, but for successful careers after the completion of their undergraduate degrees. To this end, the university offers the following skill-based placement guidelines to place students into the correct entry-level biology or chemisty course.

- ACT Science Subscore >= 21
|
- Complete high school Biology AP course with an “A” Grade
- Score a 3 or higher on Biology AP exam (3 = BIO 101 course equivalent; 4 = BIO 103 /BIO 106 course equivalent)
- CLEP score of 50 or higher on Biology test (BIO 103 course equivalent)

Must take pre-req course:
BIO 101 /BIO 101L
-OR-
BIO 103 /BIO 103L
|

- ACT Science Subscore >= 21
|
- Complete high school Chemistry AP course with an “A” Grade
- Score a 3 or higher on Chemistry AP exam (3 = CHE 109 course equivalent; 4 = CHE 109 /CHE 110 )
- CLEP score of 50 on Chemistry test (CHE 111 course equivalent)

Must take pre-req course:
CHE 109 /CHE 109L

Note regarding students pursuing pre-medicine:
For pre-medicine, students are required to take freshman classes BIO 103 /BIO 106 and CHE 111 /CHE 112 regardless of their lab science placement for other programs of study. Also note that many medical schools do not accept AP Exam credits as pre-requisite courses regardless of the AP Exam score
