To “know thyself” today requires the large-scale study of the “making of Europe” as a background of modernity. Students see the process of change whereby a new religion enters an old society to create a civilization. They encounter key moments of the past through a great work of historical synthesis as well as various genres of historical communication that reflect Western identity.
